Housing Works Mission Statement

Housing Works is committed to ending the twin crises of homelessness and AIDS.
Through advocacy and direct services, we work to ensure that low-income and homeless people with HIV/AIDS and their families have lifesaving access
to housing, health care, food, social support, drug treatment, and employment. We’re committed to serving people who have difficulty obtaining care, including those struggling with HIV, mental illness, and chemical dependency. Housing Works views health as a social-justice issue. We’ve created a healing community that is home—in
every sense of the word—for the thousands of clients, staff, and volunteers in our extended family.

• Housing Works is the largest grassroots AIDS organization
in the U.S.
• Housing Works pioneered a “social entrepreneurship”
model for nonprofits. Our beloved chain of upscale Thrift
Shops and Bookstore Café generate millions in revenue.
• Since its founding in 1990, Housing Works has provided
services to more than 20,000 New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS.
• Housing Works owns and operates 150 units of lowincome
• In 2006, Housing Works clients made more than 4,000
doctor visits to our four Adult Day Health Care centers.
• Graduates of our job-training program are guaranteed a
$25,000-a-year position at Housing Works and full benefits.
