Spring ’09 Readings, A Call for Interns, and Merry New Years Wishes

Hello dollies!

The Other Means Reading Series is proud to present our schedule (in progress) for our Spring ’09 season (I know, I can’t believe we got our act together this far in advance, either). All readings take place, as usual, at 8pm on the last Tuesday of the month at the Flying Saucer Cafe, 494 Atlantic Avenue between Nevins and Third. Come on down, whydontcha?:

February 24th:  ANYA ULINICH (Petropolis) and RACHEL SHUKERT (Have You No Shame?)

March 31st: KATHRYN JOYCE (Quiverfull), JENNIFER BAUMGARDNER ( Abortion and Life) and MICHELLE GOLDBERG (The Means of Reproduction), in support of the New York Abortion Access Fund

April 28th:  GLENN KURTZ (Practicing) and DAVID ROTHENBERG (Thousand Mile Song: Whale Music in a Sea of Sound)

May 26th: ELIZABETH DWOSKIN, JANE BERENTSON (Miss Harper Can Do It), and SUZANNE GUILLETTE (Much to Your Chagrin)

June 30th: BILL WASIK (And Then There’s This: How Stories Live and Die in Viral Culture) and JAMES HANNAHAM (God Says No)

Please check back often for updates about readers, charities to be supported at each event, and general fun times.

**Also!: WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN INTERN!**

Are you a college student? Are you not a college student but you have some free time on your hands and want to help out a very fun and exciting reading series? Are you clever with computers? Then the Other Means Reading Series is looking for you! Be our inaugural intern! We’re looking for someone interested in nonprofits and literature to help us revamp our website so we can include cool new features (interviews, audio); our intern would also work with authors and nonprofits to coordinate readings, help us publicize events, write short posts for the website, and a lot more. We can’t pay you (because we don’t have any money, natch), but we can provide college credit or serve as a work reference, for those of you out in the big bad working world.  You will also be paid in gratitude and possibly baked goods. Drop us a line at othermeansreadingseries@gmail.com for more info.

And finally: happy New Year to all y’all! The Other Means Reading Series will be having it’s two year anniversary this year (in April) and we just wanted to take a second and thank you all for your support through the past two years–thanks to you, we always have a reason to get out of bed the last Tuesday of every month. Stay warm, stay well, and have a totally bitchin’ 2009.

Love,

The Other Means Reading Series
